Blog Image Youth Club is now having it's summer break, there will be no junior or senior sessions until September 1st. We've had a fantastic summer though, with trips to Jump, and The Inflatable Water Park at Rother Valley, we also had a Street-Dance session at Youth Club and last week an amazing residential trip to Ormside Mill in Cumbria. There we had 3 brilliant nights, with juniors and seniors, taking part in kayaking, ghyll walking, climbing and hiking, along with many other adventures. This was a great reward for our club members, many of whom have had a difficult 18 months, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the youth club during the pandemic. Here's to better times from September. Graham & the HBGC team.

Blog Image As restrictions (hopefully) continue to ease we are able to start doing some limited activities again. During May Half Term, on June 2nd we will be take a small group to Airhaus Inflatable Park. In the Summer holidays we have a 3 day activity residential in the Lake district booked in for early August, and will probably arrange some 1 day trips in the weeks either side. For more details and updates follow us on social media.

Blog Image Just an update on what's happening at HBGC as we approach the Easter break. All the following is based on the assumption that the current easing of covid-19 restrictions stays on timetable. Youth club sessions will resume on April 12th at the same times as before, Monday and Thursday 6:30-8:30pm for seniors and 4:00-6:00pm Wednesday for juniors. The covid rules/risk assessment will be as they were when we were last open under Tier 3 restrictions. This will include the numbers allowed in, but based on the numbers attending when we were last open, there will be no need to impose any restrictions yet. That week we are also planning to run some sessions alongside Zest and the Healthy Holidays project. These are Boxing on the 13th, a Nature Walk on the 14th, and Rounders in the Park on the 15th. These are primarily aimed at local families whose children qualify for Free School Meals, but I'm hopeful there will also be places for other youth club members who want to get involved. For more details on any of the above get in touch. Graham

Blog Image Hi everyone Just to update you on what's happening here at HBGC. Obviously next week is Half Term, as regular sessions are still on hold, and we can't do our usual trips/activities, then online sessions will continue. I don't know yet when we will be able to re-open, hopefully sometime in March when restrictions are eased, but we will have to wait and see. On Wednesday we ran a support session for any club members who are struggling with lockdown, discussing coping strategies and ways to maintain good mental health, as well as some games and exercise. We will be running more after half term, numbers are very limited (so we can maintain social distancing etc) and by booking only, but if you are interested and want more info then get in touch. Next Tuesday we shall once again be handing out (Free School Meal) Food Parcels to local families, in partnership with Zest, again get in touch for further info. Stay safe and take care; Graham

Following the latest national lockdown introduced to combat the pandemic, youth clubs will once again have to close their doors to normal sessions.

Therefore we will be moving our sessions online from tomorrow.  Follow us at 'hillsboroughbgc' on Instagram for more details and updates.

As always we will do everything we can to support our club members during this difficult period, feel free to get in contact at any time, and hopefully we'll be open again soon.

Take care, Graham and the HBGC team.

    Hi everyone

Just to let you know that we are now closed for our Christmas break, sessions will (hopefully) resume on January 4th, subject to covid restrictions.

On Tuesday 22nd December we will once again be distributing food hampers to local families, but after that staff will be on holiday until the new year.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the club in any way during what has been an extremely difficult year, I am very proud of the service we have contunued to offer to our club members and the community during this time, when many of them needed us more than ever.

So a very Merry Christmas to you all, and here's to a brighter new year.

    Graham and everyone at HBGC

As we are moving out of the latest national lockdown next week I am pleased to announce that we will be re-opening youth club to provide face-to-face support for our club members.  Under the Tier 3 restrictions that Sheffield is moving into, orgainised activities with under 18's are once again permitted, allowing us to open.  There will of course have to be restrictions on what we do, such as limiting numbers, activities and of of course adhering to social distancing and wearing face coverings (except for under 12's).  I have updated our risk assesment (see below) although it is broadly the same is it was for Tier 3 opening before th latest lockdown.

So sessions will resume from Juniors on Wednesday 2nd December.  Any questions just ask.

Due to the 2nd national covid-19 lockdown, all face to face youth club sessions will be suspended after Wednesday's juniors.  This will be until at least December 2nd and/or when restrctions are eased and youth clubs can re-open.

Staff will be available online throughout this period, at normal session times or in an emergency.  You can contact us at 'hillsboroughbgc' on Instagram, 'Hillsborough Boys & Girls Club' on Facebook, or on 07532 162426.

If the current lockdown continues beyond a month, and/or schools close, I will try and get clearance to run some face-to-face support sessions to stop young people feeling completely isolated.  If there is anything else we can do to support young people, or indeed as a community centre during this difficult time, then please get in touch.

Stay safe.  Graham and the HBGC team.

    Hi all

We have decided to make a slight alteration to our Covid-19 policy at youth club, with regard to face coverings.  Up until now we have only used outdoor or well ventilated indoor spaces and observed strict social distancing.  But with the weather changing this is no longer feasible, and along with the recent implications of long term restrictions enforced nationally we feel the right approach to help us remain open is to ask everyone working at or attending youth club to wear a mask, with the following exceptions (as allowed by governement guidelines)

    • Children aged 11 or under
    • Outdoors
    • Whilst taking part in exercise/physical activity
    • Whilst taking part in an activity where a mask would have a negative impact, so long as social distancing is strictly observed
    • Where health issues prevent wearing of mask (proof will be required)

Masks can be provided by youth club if anyone doesn't have one.

I have updated and reviewed our risk assesment, see below.

    Hi all

Just a quick update regarding the latest covid-19 restrictions, we are classed as educational, not social, so are not affected by the latest changes.

As our numbers are relatively low anyway, and well within the self imposed limits we set oursleves to conform with social distancing we will continue as we are, whilst all the time reviewing and monitoring what we are doing to keep everyone safe.

I have not updated the risk assesment, as nothing has changed, but like I say we continue to monitor and review our practice.
